Lolita is a fashion subculture from Japan that is highly influenced by Victorian and Edwardian children's clothing and styles from the Rococo period. A very distinctive property of Lolita fashion is the aesthetic of cuteness. This clothing subculture can be categorized into three main substyles: 'gothic', 'classic', and 'sweet'. Many other substyles such as 'sailor', 'country', 'hime' (princess), 'ero' (erotic), 'guro' (gore), 'oriental', 'punk', 'shiro (white)', kuro (black) and steampunk lolita also exist. This style evolved into a widely followed subculture in Japan and other countries in the 1990s and 2000s and may have waned in Japan as of the 2010s as the fashion became more mainstream.
It is considered as a non-mainstream fashion style currently, and not be accepted as a daily dress. Sometimes when people who wear Lolita Style cloths walking on the street, others would thinks they are strange. I do not agree that Lolita should be rejected. I think it is a revival for the classic beauty, it also realize the dream for the people who wear it to looks like a noble, a cool person, etc. People can wear what they like without being regarded as a strange person. The Lolita culture is still developing and having more categories. People keep designing the cloth style, and also create some daily Lolita dress.
I really love Lolita and Han-style clothes. For this project, I want to show that even the non-mainstream fashion can also looks pretty and be accepted by people. The most important is that the cloth should provide happiness for their customers.
